50. Deputy Alan Kelly asked the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht her plans to implement the decision to name a day as national famine commemoration day; and if she will make a statement on the matter. (Question 10023/18 asked on 28 Feb 2018)
Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht (Deputy Josepha Madigan): The National Famine Memorial Day Bill, which inter alia proposes the establishment of a fixed date for the annual commemoration, passed Second Stage last year. A date has not yet been agreed for the scheduling of the Committee Stage of the Bill. I understand that the issue of a money message in respect of this Bill remains under consideration.
